Brazil recorded around 13 attacks by pitbull dogs in 2024 and six people died in the incidents.

The data was collected by the CNN Brasil portal. The breed was created in the United States in the 19th century for dogfighting, which at the time was considered a sporting activity.
The most recent case recorded was the death of a bricklayer in Ribeirão Pires, in the interior of São Paulo, on Thursday, the 14th.
The victim was 37 years old and working on a construction site when the animal got loose and attacked him. The pitbull was ‘dominated’ by its owners shortly afterwards.
On the same date, three children were attacked by two animals of this breed in a public playground in Vila Guilherme, north of São Paulo (SP). An 11-year-old boy is hospitalized and must undergo surgery.
