Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marija Zakharova said in October that Moscow would respond to Warsaw’s “hostile step” with a “painful response.”
Russian diplomats from the Consulate General in Poznań in western Poland will leave the country in the next few days, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said. TASR reports according to the PAP agency.
“The lease on this property expires at the end of this month. Right now we’re talking about ten days,” Sikorski explained during a media interview on Saturday. On October 22, the minister revoked approval for the operation of the consulate due to Russia’s sabotage activities in Poland and Europe.
Sikorski said that Ukraine’s request to locate the Ukrainian consulate in the vacated premises will be resolved favorably. “Given the unprecedented increase in the number of Ukrainian citizens in Poland… the number of Ukrainian consulates does not reflect consular needs,” he added.
In addition to the consulate general in Poznań, Russia has an embassy in Warsaw, a consulate general in Gdansk and a consulate general in Krakow on Polish territory.

Polish security forces have accused a group of four people of sending incendiary devices and explosives by air on behalf of foreign intelligence services. According to the German intelligence service BfV, a package that was supposed to explode on board the plane accidentally caught fire in July at DHL’s logistics center in Leipzig.
