The Lagoense Pigeon Society celebrated this Saturday, the 16th, the traditional Gala Dinner, which took place at the restaurant of the “Colina da Lapa” resort, in Sesmarias, Lagoa. The event aimed to publicly recognize and reward the merit of pigeon fanciers and their racing pigeons, who stood out most in the 2024 Sports Campaign.
Pedro Vicente highlighted
The big winner of the night was Pedro Vicente, who won several titles at local, state and national level. In the Lagoa community, he became General, Sprint, Middle-Distance, Yearlings and Sprint Elimination Champion. He was also Vice-Champion for Pigeons and third place in the Distance Championship, accumulating several gold, silver and bronze rings with his pigeons.
On the district scene, he stood out as Absolute Champion of the Windward Zone, Speed Champion and Middle-Distance Vice-Champion, with his athletes winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Absolute Ace Pigeon category. At national level, his pigeon nº 2033702/23 obtained 11th place as Ace Pigeon of Speed in the National Championships organized by the Portuguese Pigeon Racing Federation.
Pigeon racing: collective and individual successes
Other teams also shone at the gala, such as the Grade, Nascimento & PNL team, which won the Distance Championship and the Distance Qualifiers, in addition to obtaining 2nd place in the Middle Distance, Yearlings and General championships. At the district level, they stood out as Distance Champions of the Barlavento Zone, also reaching 2nd place in the Ace Distance Pigeon category with athlete nº 2033746/22.
The Asas do Carvoeiro team (Rui & Tangerino) was the Borrachos Champion and reached several important positions, including 3rd place in Yearlings and 4th in the general classification. In the district championship, they secured 3rd place in the Barlavento Zone Distance Championship.
Also in evidence was the João Cabrita & Armindo team, which came in 3rd place overall and won the Middle-Distance Gold Ring with pigeon no. 9490302/19, recognized as 1st Middle-Distance Ace Pigeon in the Barlavento Zone.
Notable presences
The event was attended by Anabela Simão, vice-president of the Municipal Chamber of Lagoa, Joaquim João, president of the Union of Parishes of Carvoeiro and Lagoa, and José Carlos, representative of Faro, as well as other guests and representatives of pigeon-racing communities in the region. This dinner reinforced the role of the Lagoense Pigeon Society in promoting the pigeon sport, honoring the efforts and achievements of its members throughout the season.
