The government of Acre, through the Secretariat of State for Women (Semulher), participated in the G20 Social Summit, an initiative of the Brazilian presidency to listen to the populations of the G20 countries, with representatives of civil society from around the world for joint construction of a document of proposals discussed throughout 2024. Semulher was present, at the invitation of the Ministry of Women, at the panel “G20 and Women: Inclusive and sustainable economic development”, this Friday, 15th, in Rio de Janeiro.
The Panel was attended by female and political leaders such as the Minister of Women, Cida Gonçalves; Janja Lula da Silva, First Lady of Brazil; federal deputy Benedita da Silva and selected representatives of Working Groups and Engagement Groups.
Acre was represented by the special advisor of the State Secretariat for Women, Eloísa Ribeiro. According to her, this opportunity was very important to dialogue with the authorities and other social sectors. “Including women in these social processes, equally, with equity, were some of the issues discussed. Semulher makes itself available to learn, to listen and participate in these debates because we can not only help in the construction of what is being developed here, but also take these perspectives to Acre as well”, he highlighted.
The authorities present discussed urgent topics for the economic empowerment of women, with an emphasis on how gender equality is a central pillar for sustainable development, areas such as female poverty, inequality in the labor market and women’s participation in strategic areas , considering the significant impact that women have faced in recent years with the increase in poverty and inequality in Brazil.
The Minister of Women, Cida Gomes, highlighted at the opening of the event that laws such as Equal Pay between Women and Men is one of the achievements of women, but that measures like these pose challenges for their application due to different social sectors. “We cannot give up wage equality between women and men, this is a historic fight”, he stated.
