Dozens of Palestinians were killed or injured in an Israeli attack on a multi-storey residential building in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya on Sunday, medical sources there said. TASR reports according to the Reuters agency.
The exact number of casualties or injuries was not immediately known. Palestinian sources say that around 70 people lived in the building. Israel did not directly comment on the claims about the attack on the apartment building.
The Israeli army sent tanks to Beit Lahiya, as well as the other nearby towns of Beit Hanoun and Jabalia last month on the grounds of fighting militants from the Palestinian radical movement Hamas and in order to prevent them from regrouping. Jabalia is the largest of the eight refugee camps in the Gaza Strip.
In another Israeli attack on the Buraj camp in central Gaza, where the rocket hit the house, at least ten people lost their lives on Sunday morning, according to medics.
The Hamas-run Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip says in its latest tally that 43,799 people have lost their lives since the start of the war on October 7, 2023.
