UN Special Commission Report Says Israel “Deliberately Causing Death, Famine and Serious Injuries” in Gaza Strip
Israel has condemned the accusations of genocide made by the United Nations (UN) as “anti-Israeli fabrications”. He responded to the statements of the UN commission, according to which the Israeli army’s actions in the Gaza Strip meet the characteristics of genocide. TASR informs on the basis of an AFP report published on Sunday.
A UN special commission report says Israel is “deliberately causing death, famine and serious injury” in the Gaza Strip and accuses Israel of “using famine as a weapon of war”.
“The report is a sickening example of the UN being turned into a pawn in the hands of terrorists attacking the civilian population of a democratic country,” Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein said on the social platform X on Sunday night. The ministry dismissed the allegations as false and insisted that Israel’s actions were aimed exclusively at “destroying Hamas’ ability to carry out terrorist attacks”.
The report of the UN commission is not the first accusation of genocide against Israel. At the beginning of the year, the Republic of South Africa officially accused Israel of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague. At the time, Israel also vehemently denied the accusations. The MSD ordered Israel to allow humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip and demanded that Israel limit casualties and damage, but did not order it to halt military operations in the Palestinian enclave.
The United States, as Israel’s biggest supporter, has dismissed the latest and past accusations as baseless.
The war in the Gaza Strip began in response to the Hamas movement’s attack on southern Israel. On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants killed nearly 1,200 people and took approximately 250 hostages. According to the Palestinian medical authorities, the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip has so far claimed more than 43,846 victims, mostly civilians.
