Energy prices are still rising, but winter does not ask how much we pay for heating. In order not to waste unnecessarily and not let cold air from the outside into the apartment, we can easily make a draft tube, which is not only practical, but can also make the interior of the apartment special.
The próvanovník is nothing new at all, it was already known to our ancestors, who could only dream of insulated houses and double or even triple-glazed windows. Therefore, grandmothers sewed or knitted a cylinder exactly as long as the width of the window or door. Its diameter should be at least ten centimeters.

So that the winter does not get into the apartment
Why? It’s simple. Drafts often enter the apartment through leaks in the lower part of the windows, but even more so under the doors, which rarely seal perfectly. Thanks to its simple but perfect function, the draft fan prevents cold air from reaching the apartment. Savings are easy. Less cold means less energy consumption for heating the apartment.
Even “neshika” can do it
As mentioned, making the base of a draft tree is not difficult. It will be enough to sew a simple cylinder, but we must also fill it with suitable material. It can be, for example, the remains of old fabrics or cotton wool, but loose materials such as rice, cereals or even sand will also do a very good job.
In this way, draft boards can be created, ideal for use at the front door, where we need a greater adhesion to both the ground and the floor. Even in those that are supposed to be used on windows, it is advisable to add heavier components so that they hold well in place.
Decorate your interior
Although any draft tree will fulfill its practical purpose, we will certainly want to make the most beautiful one, or at least one that suits our interior. Of course, it is up to you what material and what color fabric you choose to create it.
Children will be happy with cheerful pictures, an elegant room can be made special by a darker, elegant color, and a rustic interior will be brought to perfection by a checkered draught, tied at each end with lace like candy. There are thousands of options and it only depends on your imagination which option you choose.
Will it be a dachshund?
The more skilled ones can even try to make even more creative shapes. If you decide to crochet the cover of the draft tree, you can create a beautiful dachshund or other cute animal. Other times, it doesn’t have to be just a classic cylinder, but the windows can be decorated with small sewn pillows or crocheted houses. But that is a task for true masters of hook and loop.
Remember to clean
We also have to think about the fact that we will have to wash it from time to time. Especially those that are supposed to lie on the ground will need to be washed. Therefore, it is better to sew the basic shape from ordinary fabric and one more “cover” from decorative material.
This also applies if you want to put a draft box filled with, for example, the mentioned grain in the windows. We certainly wouldn’t put it in the washing machine. But you can also use an old pillowcase as an inner part – after all, it won’t be visible.
It really pays off
A draft tree, especially one that you make yourself from fabric scraps, is a cheap and easy way to start saving money on energy costs today. Its production is neither complicated nor even time-consuming, and it can serve you for many years every winter. Isn’t that an excellent idea?
