The businessman who owns X (formerly) responded this Saturday (16) to the attack by the Brazilian first lady, with a political provocation.
“They are going to lose the next election,” he wrote on X, with laughing emojis.
The statement was made in response to the publication of an English-subtitled video of Janja’s speech.
Earlier, the first lady said she was not afraid of Musk, and used an expression in English to attack him.
“”, said Janja, with terms equivalent to “go fuck yourself”, to refer to the businessman who will take up a position in the government of the elected president of the , .
Musk is close to Bolsonarism in Brazil and has one (Supreme Federal Court), with insults towards Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The platform faced with non-compliance with court decisions.
The statement was given during Cria, a G20 Social panel, organized by the government () to create a bridge between topics addressed by the group and civil society.
The panel in which the first lady made the statement was attended by influencer Felipe Neto. In her speech, which was impromptu (she was in the audience), Janja said that the panel was one of the most relevant at the international meeting.
“We talked about the regulation of social networks, of platforms. I’ve always said that it’s not a local issue, if we don’t have this discussion globally, we won’t be able to win. There’s no point in having laws in Brazil — and It’s difficult to happen, we know all the obstacles, if we don’t discuss this issue globally”, he said.
“It is discussed at the United Nations, but we know that the new global governance also needs to look at this. Because there is no point in doing this, and the United States arrives and [dizerem] ‘we won’t do it’. (…) It is no longer possible for us to live in this digital world of disinformation”, he stated.
Behind the scenes, diplomats and members of the government expressed irritation with the first lady’s comment, stating that the insult could hinder the Brazilian government’s attempt to have a pragmatic relationship with the future Trump administration. Furthermore, they classify the declaration as counterproductive in the attempt to reach a consensus and reduce friction with Argentina during the G20.
The United States, now under Trump’s command, will have Musk as head of the new Department of Government Efficiency, along with Vivek Ramaswamy, Trump’s former opponent in the . The announcement was made last Tuesday (12).
The Department of Government Efficiency is a body that will be created by Trump and will have the acronym DOGE, in likely reference to the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, supported by Musk on several occasions.
It is not clear what the role of the new department will be within the American government — whether it will actually have power, or whether it will only exist to analyze and propose the cuts announced by Trump to other departments. In the statement, the president-elect suggested that the department will work “outside the government”, but did not go into details.
