However, he considers it necessary to prepare for other alternatives of political development, such as the parliamentary elections on the regular date in 2027. At the same time, he refuses to maintain the governing majority by respecting political blackmail. Fico said this to anyone who has unrealistic demands on the coalition. He announced this during the ceremonial assembly on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of Smer-SD.
Fico considers it a tradition of the Smer-SD party that it saw all its governments to the end. He added that his government is working in a difficult coalition environment with a narrow majority. “Let’s be very realistic and prepare for other alternatives of political development in Slovakia, such as parliamentary elections on the regular date in 2027,” he declared in a speech. According to Fico, it depends on the three coalition leaders whether the government will last until 2027.
The head of Smer-SD also declared that his party is and intends to be a stabilizing element in the government coalition. He emphasized that political blackmail cannot be a tool for the functioning of the government. “As prime minister and chairman of Smer-SD, I fundamentally refuse to maintain the government majority by respecting political blackmail,” he stated.
