Futuro is seen as an ally by Bolsonarists not only because of his sympathetic statements towards the former president.
Recently, Rubio met with lawyers for former international presidential advisor Filipe Martins, who worked during the Bolsonaro government.
The topic was suspicions that Martins’ entry record in the USA at the end of 2022 had been falsified by the American immigration service, Customs and Border Protection.
This record was used by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, as an argument to keep Martins in prison for six months this year.
The justification is that he, accused of participating in the creation of a coup draft, could again be absent from the country. The former advisor, however, provided evidence that he did not leave Brazil at the time, and was eventually released in August.
The priority now for his lawyers and allies is to prove that US entry records were rigged.
