Traces of prehistoric reptiles left 280 million years ago have been found in the Alps. A tourist has discovered traces of an entire prehistoric ecosystem in the northern part of the Italian Alps.
Scientists believe the discovery represents footprints of reptiles and amphibians, which have come to light as a result of the melting of man and ice caused by the climate crisis.
According to experts, the age of these traces is 280 million years and they date from the Permian period – the era immediately preceding the appearance of dinosaurs, reports Noi.md with reference to .
Ichnologist Lorenzo Marchetti of the Natural History Museum in Berlin said the prints were so well preserved that scientists were able to uncover “impressive details” such as nails and skin impressions from some of the animals.
Fossilized plant fragments, seeds and even raindrop imprints have also been found in the ecosystem.
