Prime Minister and his family were not there at the time of the incident; incident occurred around 7:30 pm (local time) and its origin has not yet been clarified
Two flares fell this Saturday (16) in front of the residence of Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in Caesarea, in central Israel. Netanyahu and his family were not there at the time of the incident, said a joint statement from the police and the Shin Bet internal security agency, which classified the episode as “serious” and a “dangerous escalation”. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm (local time) and its origins have not yet been clarified. Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the attack and highlighted the urgency of an investigation. “I spoke with the head of the Shin Bet and emphasized the need to identify those responsible quickly,” said Herzog in a post on the social network X.
The attack comes weeks after another incident at the same residence. On October 22, a drone launched from Lebanon struck a structure in Caesarea. At the time, Netanyahu, who was also not present, accused the Hezbollah group, an ally of Iran, of trying to assassinate him. The terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, declaring “full responsibility for the Caesarea operation”.
Since September, Israel has been conducting a military offensive in Lebanon aimed at neutralizing Hezbollah in border regions, in response to heightened tensions following the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, in the Gaza Strip, in October 2023. The conflict in northern Israel takes place amid a series of cross-border attacks in solidarity with Hamas.
