Military personnel work to police Parque do Flamengo, in the south of the capital, where world leaders gather

The Brazilian Army will act to reinforce security this Monday (Nov 18, 2024) and Tuesday (Nov 19), in Rio de Janeiro. Military personnel were seen policing the event location – the MAM (Museum of Modern Art), in Parque do Flamengo, south of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The (Federal Police) is responsible for coordinating event security. It includes the airspace control department, the Air Force, the Army command, with 9,000 soldiers on the streets, as well as agents from the PF, PRF (Federal Highway Police) and Rio’s Military and Civil Police.

During the G20 operational period, agents will provide security for approximately 84 world leaders and foreign ministers. The event will feature tactical police officers, including snipers (snipers), teams with tactical vehicles and anti-bomb sweeps with sniffer dogs.

The PF created an anti-drone monitoring center with a radius of 37 km. The team monitors the central region of Rio and the south zone. In addition, 5 metro stations, the Copacabana waterfront and Santos Dumont airport, which had flights transferred to Galeão, are closed.
