The president of the PL state directory in Rio de Janeiro, deputy Altineu Côrtes (PL-RJ), says that Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will try until the last moment to run for president of the Republic in 2026 and that his natural successors will be his children, Flávio and Eduardo.
“The candidate is Bolsonaro. He will be a candidate. Lula wasn’t there? I trust that President Bolsonaro will reverse this situation”, said Altineu in an interview with the newspaper The Globe published this Monday (18).
Bolsonaro and Flávio are affiliated with the Rio de Janeiro PL, while Eduardo is from the São Paulo directory.
Just as Côrtes reinforces, Jair Bolsonaro successively reaffirms that he will be a candidate to succeed Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and that he will try until the last possible moment to try to reverse the conviction of ineligibility.
For them, the election of Republican Donald Trump in the United States gives the right an additional incentive to pressure the Brazilian justice system to acquit Bolsonaro of the charges.
“This strategy will be implemented by President Bolsonaro. He is very motivated. Furthermore, we had a stimulus with Trump’s victory”, pointed out Côrtes.
He pointed out that Flávio and Eduardo “have enormous respect on the right”, and that “when Bolsonaro passes the baton, I would say that the very strong names” are the two sons “because they are in Brasília”.
On the other hand, Altineu Côrtes recognizes that the explosions that occurred last week in Brasília could affect the progress of the investigations and the right-wing strategy to try to acquit the former president.
He states that, even with the attack, the amnesty project for those involved in the acts of January 8, 2023 must continue to be processed until it is approved.
“It is obvious that, with a polarized country, it feeds those who are against it. I think the amnesty has to be voted on, even if it loses. I do not consider that a lady who participated in that without a weapon, a bomb, should face 17 years in prison”, he added.
