DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) – At least 13 people died after a building collapsed in Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, and more than 80 people were rescued, the country’s president said on Sunday (17).
The four-story building at Kariakoo market in eastern Dar es Salaam collapsed on Saturday at around 9am (local time).
In a speech, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan said more than 80 people had been rescued and rushed to hospitals, with 26 of them still hospitalized.
She added that the government will cover the costs of treatment and help with burial arrangements.
