Minister Camilo Santana (Education) announced this Monday (18) that the government will create a program to hire teachers similar to “Mais Médicos” and that it will encourage students who take the National High School Examination (Enem) to enroll in degree courses in the next year.
The objective, according to him, is to take teachers to places where there is a deficit in schools, with the payment of a grant. There is also the possibility of creating an incentive for private companies.
“Today we have a huge shortage of teachers in the areas of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. We will allocate an additional scholarship to teachers who want to go to a certain region with fewer teachers. In the first two years, the MEC supports this”, said the minister at a newspaper event Estadão in São Paulo.
For students who take the Enem, the program intends to pay a scholarship and savings similar to the Pé-de-meia program. Those who achieve a minimum score of 650 points will be eligible to participate.
“Looking at appreciation is not just about remuneration. For me, teachers are one of the most important professions in the country, we all have them. Therefore, it is necessary to create a culture for society to recognize the role of this teacher”, he pointed out.
The Pé-de-Meia program, mentioned by the minister, is already an initiative that offers financial support to students from public schools that are part of the Single Registry for Social Programs. This incentive works as a savings, guaranteeing R$200 per month for students who prove enrollment and attendance, with the aim of promoting the completion of secondary education.
In addition to these incentives, the package provides for partnerships with civil society and the private sector to promote benefits for teachers, such as discounts in hotels and bookstores. Policies for easier access to books and technology equipment, such as computers, are also planned to support teachers in their activities.
Camilo Santana also highlighted the creation of a unified assessment at national level to improve the quality of professionals entering municipal and state education networks. This assessment will be based on the National Student Performance Exam (Enade) test, with the aim of raising the quality of education in Brazil.
