is one of the emblematic PAF presenters who have forever marked the history of Canal +. Saturday November 16, 2024, the person concerned was invited to the set of What an era! to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary. On the air, he readily spoke about the journalists who had an impact on him during his brilliant career. It is impossible for him not to pay tribute to Charles Biétry, former director of Sports at Canal+ suffering from Charcot’s disease.
Remember that this is a very disabling degenerative pathology which leads to a progressive deterioration of motor functions. Still incurable, it generally leads to death within three to five years after diagnosis. A disease that Michel Denisot himself describes as “atrocious“. With emotion in the face of Léa Salamé, he praised the immense courage of Charles Biétry, weakened by illness.
Michel Denisot with an open heart about Charles Biétry
“He has difficulty speaking, etc., but we communicate a lot by texting”the 79-year-old presenter modestly underlined, specifying that on a daily basis, they only talked about “light things”. “We make predictions on all the matches every time, and we have never won.” The two men had met well before they appeared together on the famous encrypted channel. “Charles is a friend from before Canal +”, notified Michel Denisot. “We talked a lot together about sports broadcasts, and when the channel started I gave his phone number to Pierre Lescure, who already knew who it was. And that’s how it started.”
A planned end of life in Switzerland
Although fairly discreet in the media, Charles Biétry sometimes speaks on X, formerly Twitter. In March in particular, the latter spoke about the future law on the end of life, mentioned by Emmanuel Macron: “I managed to live well, I don’t want to die badly. Charcot’s disease has already deprived me of the use of my legs and of speech. Soon it will be breathing accompanied by suffering for me and mine. This law, a first step, can offer us freedom and dignity. THANKS”. Last year during an interview for the Teamthe father also explained that he had planned his end of life in Switzerland with his loved ones.
