How to cook potatoes to perfection? These are the rules you need to remember

Everyone knows well that potatoes should be peeled and thoroughly washed and rinsed in separate water before cooking. But that’s not all the rules you need to remember, if you want to enjoy the perfect taste and texture of this favorite vegetable.

  • Choose the right type of potato, depending on whether you plan to make a salad or mash (flour varieties are better), and cut larger pieces of vegetables into smaller pieces so they cook evenly.
  • Always cover them with cold water when putting them in the pot.
  • When you put the potatoes on the stove, don’t forget to add a little salt while cooking and stirring. This is necessary if you want them to always look attractive and have a strong taste and not be bland.

What can you do to prevent your potatoes from falling apart while cooking? All you need is this ingredient

Salt is not the only ingredient which you should add to potatoes when cooking. In addition to your favorite spices, you should always add a little… lemon juice to the pot.

  • It may surprise you, but this trick has been circulating on the Internet for a long time and is said to be very effective.
  • Lemon juice contains prussic acid, thanks to which potatoes absorb less water. As a result, they do not fall apart and do not darken after removing from the pot.
  • According to gourmet.co.uk, this is due to the neutralization of the polyphenol oxidase enzyme.

Just add two tablespoons of this ingredient when the water starts to boil, and mix the contents of the pot. When the vegetables are soft, drain them and serve them for lunch or dinner with meat, salad or other side dishes.

Instead of lemon juice, you can also add vinegar to the potatoes during cooking.
