Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday warned of an “adequate response” in the event that Ukraine fires Western-supplied long-range missiles into Russian territory. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
“If Kiev used long-range missiles to attack our territory, it would mean the direct involvement of the United States and its satellites in hostilities against Russia, as well as a radical change in the nature and character of the conflict,” the Russian ministry said in a statement. “In that case, Russia’s reaction will be adequate and tangible,” it added.
Several American and European media reported on Sunday that the President of the United States Joe Biden authorized the Ukrainian military to use ATACMS long-range missiles to strike targets on Russian territory. According to the New York Times, the Ukrainian armed forces are expected to be able to do this missiles to be used only against Russian and North Korean units operating in the Kursk region bordering Ukraine. The White House has not yet officially confirmed this news. However, the representatives of many countries have already reacted to the mediatized decision.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also warned that the decision allowing Ukrainian forces to strike targets deep inside Russian territory marks a new level of tension and US involvement in the war in Ukraine.
