Many kitchen appliances with metal elements are prone to rust. The characteristic orange layer that appears on baking sheets and cast iron cookware (such as pots and pans) is every cook’s nightmare. Fortunately, there is a clever trick that can solve the problem. All you need are two products that each of us probably has in our kitchen cupboard.
Say goodbye to rust. Use salt and lemon
Cast iron pots and pans are often prone to rust. Fortunately, in many cases, the orange coating appearing on metal elements can be removed quite easily. Just use two favorite products that probably everyone has in their kitchen cupboard. We are talking about salt and lemon.
- First, squeeze the lemon juice and add enough salt to make a mixture with a fairly thick consistency (preferably as jelly).
- Apply the paste to the corroded elements (for example, a cast-iron pan, a baking tray or a rusty kitchen faucet) and leave it on for about 2-3 hours.
- After this time, simply wipe off the paste with a sponge and warm water. The rust should disappear.
If we want to remove rust from smaller elements, we can prepare a slightly different variant of this product.
- Then we need a little more lemon juice, to which we add less salt (the jelly consistency will not be necessary in this case).
- In this way, we get a liquid in which the rusty element should be inserted. After about 3-4 hours there should be no signs of rust.
In both cases, you should be careful if you have any wounds on your hands. In such a situation, contact with the mixture may be painful.
Home remedies for rust. Use baking soda
There are other remarkable ways to deal with rust. One of them is the use of baking soda.
- Simply mix baking soda with a little water to make a paste.
- Apply to the rusty parts and leave for approx. 1-2 hours.
- After this time, the elements must be scrubbed with a sponge.
Of course, if the element is significantly rusty, home remedies may not be enough. In this case, it may be necessary to use special cleaning agents.
