The 2-0 defeat of champion Santos to CRB, this Sunday, in the penultimate round of Series B, in Vila Belmiro, brought down the Ponte Preta and Ituano for Series C of the Brazilian Championship. The two teams from the interior of São Paulo were counting on a victory for Santos to reach the final round with a chance of escaping the drop, although the situation was difficult to reverse. The duo joined the Guarani and Brusquewhich were mathematically downgraded.
Ponte’s situation was already one of the most melancholic due to the 4-0 defeat suffered in the duel with Sport, on Saturday. With 38 points, in 17th place, the first within the relegation zone, the black and white team from Campinas saw CRB go from 39 to 42 points and eliminate the risk of falling, in 15th place, above Botafogo-SP, 16th, which got away with the same score.
Ituano celebrated, on Saturday, a heroic 4-3 triumph over Vila Nova and maintained their hopes of escaping the third national division. In the end, he came in 18th place, with 37 points.
The other two relegations from Series B to Series C were defined in the previous rounds, with the falls of Brusque and Guarani, second to last placed and last placed, respectively, with 36 and 32 points. With this, the third tier of the Brasileirão will have the traditional Dérbi Campineiro in its 2025 edition.
Unlike the fight against relegation, the fight for access continues. The only team guaranteed in the elite for now is Santos. The other places are disputed by Mirassol (64 points), Novorizontino (64), Sport (63), Ceará (60) and Goiás (60). The team from Ceará has not yet taken to the field in this round and will face América-MG at 9:45 pm on Monday.
