The nominees for the best game of the year 2024 award by The Game Awards were nominated this Monday (11/18). Considered the “Oscar” of video games, the awards ceremony will be held on December 12th.

The most awarded games were Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, both with seven nominations. Both games were released exclusively for the Playstation 5.
With six possible awards, come Metaphor: ReFantazio and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the DLC of the acclaimed Elden Ring, which won the Game of the Year award in 2022. Below, with five nominations, come Balatro and Silent Hill 2.

How does TGA work?
The award nominees in the categories are decided by 130 specialized media outlets, in addition to a special jury that decides the accessibility, adaptation and eSports categories. The winners are determined according to voting by media outlets (90% weight) and popular vote (10% weight).
What is the controversy surrounding the 2024 Game Awards?
In November 2024, the Game Awards website announced that additional content – so-called DLCs -, remakes and remasters were available for voting.
