Anyone looking for a new car to buy usually takes one aspect into account in particular, which is called warranty. All new cars are required by law to have a three-year factory warranty, meaning they have protection offered by the car manufacturer. In any case, it is up to each manufacturer to decide whether or not to offer their customers more than a three-year warranty.
In addition to the warranty years, manufacturers also usually set a mileage limit. Once this limit is exceeded, the car owner is no longer protected by the manufacturer.
Note that the car warranty normally covers problems with the timing belt, the gearbox or even the radiator, as well as any anomaly related to components, such as alternators, batteries, ignition systems and even some elements of the infotainment systems. .
While some brands only offer a three-year warranty to their customers, some manufacturers even offer a decade of protection in order to attract new buyers. This is what happens with Toyota, which, in addition to the 10-year warranty, defined a maximum limit of 180 thousand kilometers. However, it is stated that the customer must go annually or every 15,000 kilometers to a brand workshop and the warranty is renewed up to a limit of 180,000 kilometers.
Despite not offering many years of protection, Hyundai stands out for being the only car brand in Portugal that offers unlimited kilometers under warranty. This means that, for seven years, all customers of the Korean brand are protected, without the need to worry about the number of kilometers driven.
