Four reasons for this important change in White House policy, shortly before Biden ceases to be president.
The American President, Joe Biden, authorized this Sunday, for the first time, the Ukraine using long-range missiles supplied by the United States to attack territory of Russia, according to sources cited by the news agency (AP).
Such a decision constitutes a important change to US politics and comes as Biden is about to leave the White House and President-elect Donald Trump has promised to reduce US support for Ukraine and end the war as quickly as possible.
Biden’s decision could represent a big push for the Ukraine.
Long-range missiles will likely be used in response to the decision of the North Korea to send thousands of troops to Russia, to support the continuation of the war in Ukraine, started in February 2022 by Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to AP sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Major General Vieira Borges adds another three reasons likely for this decision.
The first is the recent conversation between Olaf Scholz e Vladimir Putin. The Chancellor of Germany will have realized that the President of Russia will not negotiate peace; only accepts Ukraine’s surrender. Emmanuel Macron, president of France, said the same this Sunday.

Russia’s reaction?
Putin stated on September 25, at a meeting of the Russian Security Council, that proposals to “clarify” the doctrine on the use of nuclear weapons include considering how Russia’s aggressor any nuclear power that supports an attack by a third country.
“It was proposed to consider aggression against Russia by a non-nuclear country, but with the participation or support of a nuclear country, as a joint attack against the Russian Federation”, declared the Russian head of state, in a clear reference to Ukraine, which had requested authorization from the United States and other Western countries to use missiles supplied by them in attacks on Russian territory.
On September 12, Putin had warned that authorization by Western countries to Ukraine for long-range missile strikes against Russian territory would mean that “NATO countries are at war with Russia”.
“If this decision [de uso de mĂsseis de longo alcance ocidentais] is taken, it will mean nothing less than the direct involvement of NATO countries (North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Western defense bloc) in the war in Ukraine”, warned Putin.
“That would change the very nature of the conflict. It would mean that NATO countries are at war with Russia”, Putin added in a video published on the digital platform Telegram.
This Sunday, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled these statements, in reaction to Joe Biden’s decision.
