World Day of the Poor: Pope has lunch with 1,300 disadvantaged people in Rome

At the end of the meal, backpacks filled with food and personal hygiene products were distributed. A sharing made on the eighth World Day of the Poor, established by the leader of the Catholic church in 2017 so that the importance of supporting those in need does not fall into oblivion.

As usual, Pope Francis joined 1,300 disadvantaged people from Rome for a lunch hosted by the Italian Red Cross. Images of the moment were shared on the Vatican News YouTube channel.

Another highlight was when Pope Francis blessed 13 keys representing 13 countries in which houses will be built for people without means.

Then followed the mass celebrated in St. Peter’s Basilica. With the theme “The prayer of the poor rises up to God”, the Pope launched an appeal to the Church, governments and international organizations to remain attentive to the poorest.
