Pan American Energy wants to get closer to the Brazilian market and studies installing a solar park in Bahia

The company wants to double its production in the Argentine block of Vaca Muerta to capture the largest possible portion of the gas that will be imported to Brazil. To the Poder360the company’s general director in Brazil, Alejandro Catalano, declared that Pan American aims to get closer to the Brazilian market and hopes to become an important player in the supply of gas.

Catalano said that today the company produces 10 million cubic meters of gas per day in Vaca Muerta and is targeting production of 20 million cubic meters over a 4 to 5 year horizon.

The projection coincides with the agreement this Monday (18.Nov.2024) between the Brazilian and Argentine governments for the purchase of gas. The volume that will be imported will start at 2 million cubic meters per day and will jump to 30 million cubic meters by 2030.

Pan American Energy is one of 3 companies that will benefit from the agreement, along with and .

In the current configuration of the agreement, the countries agreed with Bolivia to use the Gasbol (Bolivia-Brazil Gas Pipeline) – which is also connected to Argentina – to transport the gas, but Pan has already drawn up a strategy to stand out among the others in the sale of gas to Brazil.

Catalano stated that the company hired an FSRU – a vessel specialized in the transport of natural gas – that will enter into operation in 2027.

The option of transporting gas from Vaca Muerta through a route that does not include the need for a gas pipeline is one of the options on the table between governments to scale up the flow over the years.

Pan’s plans in Brazil extend beyond Vaca Muerta. The company’s general director in Brazil stated that Pan is studying the installation of a solar park in the country. This will not be the company’s first energy project in Brazil.

In July, Pan opened a wind energy park in Boninal, Bahia. The project is valued at R$3 billion and has the capacity to produce 423 MW (megawhats).
