Fed up of receiving constant business calls? Use these phrases and avoid discomfort

Often, business calls, or calls spamarise when companies contact consumers to promote products or services. They have become a great source of irritation for users, mainly because, most of the time, the products offered are not of interest to those who serve them. Discover three phrases you can use to avoid being bothered in the future.

There are cases where consumers receive several unwanted calls within a few hours, which worsens frustration. With the increase in cybercrime, phone calls have also become a popular channel for fraud, making consumers want to avoid this type of contact so as not to confuse legitimate calls with attempted scams.

Although in Portugal, as in Spain, there are already regulations for this type of call, telephone spam continues to be a plague. However, some specific phrases can help reduce the discomfort, explains .

How to avoid spam calls

First, ensure that you have not provided consent to these communications. If you are sure you did not authorize this type of call, try using these phrases:

  1. “Remove my number from your database”

Regardless of whether or not you have given consent, this is one of the most effective ways to end these calls. You have the right to request removal of your number, and the company is obligated to comply during the call.

  1. “I did not request any commercial contact”

Companies often find ways to contact consumers via call, SMS or email. If you are sure that you did not authorize this contact, make it clear that you do not want to be disturbed and remind the company that they are breaking the law by contacting you without consent.

  1. “It’s illegal to contact me at this time.”

According to consumer protection legislation, commercial calls can only be made at specific times. Outside these periods, contacting consumers is prohibited.

Calls are only permitted from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, between 9:00 and 21:00. In the case of telecommunications operators, opening hours are even more restricted: they can only call between 10:00 and 15:00, and from 16:00 to 21:00, from Monday to Friday.
