If we want the lawn to withstand the coming winter well, we should prepare it properly. First of all, it is worth mowing the grass, especially if we have a lot of trees and shrubs in the yard. However, we must not forget about one more important issue – removing moss.
Moss most often appears in shady, damp placesgrows quickly in acidic soil, poor in nutrients. It most often appears from the north or under trees. Improper mowing – Irregular mowing or cutting the grass too low can contribute to the appearance of moss. It is also important to properly fertilize the lawn and provide it with the necessary nutrients that will enable proper growth.
If there is too much moss (we do not remove it regularly), it will most likely destroy our lawn. Therefore, it is worth taking care of it and removing this not necessarily necessary tenant on the plot.

How to effectively get rid of moss? It is best to use preparations that we can make at home. There is no need to use chemicals. All you need is a solution of water and baking soda, which you spray on the lawn. You can also pour just baking soda if it’s not a windy day. This treatment will allow the moss to dry and be easier to remove. A mixture of vinegar and water, which should be sprayed on the moss, is also effective (2:1 proportions), but it is better to use this solution on paving stones – in the case of a lawn, it could damage the grass blades.
Aerating the soil is also a good method. It involves piercing the soil, which allows for aeration and loosening – which translates into easier removal of moss. The next process is scarification, which involves cutting the ground to remove dead plant parts.
After removing the moss, we can also take steps to minimize the risk of its reappearance on the lawn. Calcium will work well for this purpose. By using lime, we can change the pH of the soil from acidic (in which moss thrives) to alkaline. In heavily shaded and humid places, it is worth planting plants such as common periwinkle.
We can use fertilizer lime or crush ordinary chalk. Then water the lawn. If we don’t have lime, we can also use other things, including: wood ash, basalt flour or dolomite. Thanks to this, moss should never appear on the lawn again.
