The Kings greet the residents of Chiva in a calm atmosphere
The Kings continue their visit in Chiva shaking hands and greeting the people who have approached the City Hall. The atmosphere is calm, nothing to do with the incidents that occurred two weeks ago in Paiporta, when they even threw mud and sludge at them and greeted them with shouts as well as the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón.
Felipe VI is dressed in civilian clothes, in contrast to his previous visit to Valencia, which he made without the Queen last week and focused on military sites related to reconstruction tasks. Felipe VI came in his campaign uniform. The Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the Government delegate in Valencia, Pilar Bernabé, have also joined this Tuesday’s visit. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, is participating in the G20, which is being held in Brazil, after having been at the climate summit in Baku last week.
The delegation has entered the City Hall, and it is expected that they will now visit the areas most affected by the storm in the municipality before traveling to the Valencian town of Utiel and Letur, in Castilla-La Mancha.
The previous meeting with residents of affected municipalities two weeks ago in Paiporta ended in an altercation. The atmosphere this Tuesday is completely different. Chiva did not suffer like Paiporta la dana—although there were eight dead and dozens of houses were damaged—nor were the type of residents similar; Chiva is not a municipality in the metropolitan area of Valencia, but a rural town. In Paiporta, furthermore, the visit took place on a Sunday, and it is taking place on a weekday morning. “And that happened when the damage was more recent, and reconstruction personnel had not yet arrived,” says Paco Huertas, a 63-year-old salesman, who came to see the King.
