Lula talks with Indian Prime Minister Modi about expanding partnership in energy and pharmaceuticals

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received this Tuesday (19) the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, at a meeting in Rio de Janeiro, at the Museum of Modern Art, where the G20 Leaders’ Summit is taking place, which brings together the 19 bigger economies, more European Union and African Union.

The President thanked Prime Minister Modi for joining the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty and congratulated him on organizing the G20 last year. Lula said that Brazil used many lessons from the Indian experience to organize the Rio Summit.

“We talked about India’s membership in the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty and the challenges in combating inequality. We talk about expanding scientific and business exchanges between our countries, and also in the area of ​​energy and pharmaceuticals”, said Lula in a publication on X.

Participating in the meeting, on the Brazilian side, were ministers Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs), Fernando Haddad (Finance), Alexandre Silveira (Mines and Energy) and Luciana Santos (Science and Technology), in addition to the executive secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce, Márcio Elias Rosa.

Relationships can be expanded

Lula spoke of his desire to visit India in 2025, with a delegation from the government, the scientific community and businesspeople to expand relations between the two countries in sectors such as energy and pharmaceuticals, and also the exchange of universities and technology transfer.

Prime Minister Modi said that India will be very pleased to receive a visit from Lula and his entourage next year, and that he will work to also make a state visit to Brazil in 2025.

Modi praised the Brazilian presidency for the continuity of the work of the G20 and for the advances in topics on the group’s agenda.

Lula and Modi also talked about cooperation in the biofuels, defense and aerospace sectors.

“India is an important partner of Brazil and I invited Modi to visit in 2025, with the prospect of visiting him next year as well,” added the president.
