Israeli Premier reveals that October operation hit Iranian nuclear facilities, but program continues to operate
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, confirmed on Monday (18.Nov.2024) that an Israeli attack in October damaged part of Iran’s nuclear program. The operation was a response to the launch of 200 Iranian missiles against Israeli territory on 1 October.
“A component of the nuclear program was damaged in the attack, but the program itself and its ability to operate were not disrupted.”declared Netanyahu during a session in the Israeli Parliament.
The premier indicated that the operation was planned to avoid a military escalation. Israel would even have assured the United States that it would not attack Iran’s main nuclear facilities.
Tension in Lebanon
Netanyahu also addressed the conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon. He stated that, even with a possible ceasefire agreement, Israel will maintain operations against the Shiite group.
“The most important thing is not the agreement that will be put on paper. We will be forced to guarantee our security in the north and systematically carry out operations against Hezbollah attacks, even after a ceasefire.”these.
Israel seeks to allow the return of 60,000 inhabitants from the north of the country, displaced by border clashes. In September, the Jewish State intensified air and ground attacks against Hezbollah positions.
Israel Mohammad Afif, head of communications for Hezbollah, in an air attack on Beirut this Sunday (17.Nov.2024). The bombing, without prior warning of evacuation, hit Ba’ath party offices in the residential neighborhood of Ras al-Nabaa, an area that houses displaced people from southern Lebanon. Afif was a close advisor to Hassan Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader killed in September, and had declared on November 11 that the group had the resources to maintain a “protracted conflict” with Israel. The attack injured 3 other people, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Beirut attacks
This Monday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that Israeli bombings hit a densely populated neighborhood in Beirut, killing 5 people and injuring 24 others. It was the 3rd attack in two days in the city’s central districts.
