President of Congress said that “there is no room” for actions that undermine democracy; Moraes and Alckmin were also targets, according to the PF
The president of Congress, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), stated that it is “extremely worrying” o by the (Federal Police) on this 3ª fair (19.nov.2024) that the military had planned to kill the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), or vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes.
In note (read the full text below)Pacheco asked that those involved be tried “under the rigor of the law” and said that “there is no space in Brazil for actions that undermine the democratic regime, and even less for those who plan to take the life of anyone”.
“The group, according to investigations, was plotting against democracy, in a clear action with an ideological bias. And the most serious, according to the police, these soldiers and the federal police had a plan to assassinate the President of the Republic and his vice-president, as well as a minister of the Supreme Court.”, he declared.
UNDERSTAND
The PF operation launched in this 3th fair (19.nov) investigates possible coup attempt after the 2022 presidential election. Agents target so-called “black kids”, a group formed by Special Forces soldiers, and investigate Lula and Alckmin’s execution plan.
According to the corporation, the group also planned to “the arrest and execution of a minister of the Federal Supreme Court, who had been continuously monitored, in case the coup d’état was consummated”.
5 preventive arrest warrants and 3 search and seizure warrants were issued in Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, Amazonas and the Federal District. 15 measures were determined, such as the prohibition of contact between those investigated, the delivery of passports within 24 hours and the suspension of the exercise of public functions.
The Brazilian Army monitored compliance with the warrants.
