The initial idea was to use the meeting to discuss long-term strategies for the years 2025 and, mainly, 2026, when there will be presidential elections.
According to PT leaders, however, the cuts to be announced by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, will be a kind of elephant in the room, and a heated internal discussion is likely to take place.
The big question is what tone the party will adopt, whether more or less incisive about the package. A middle ground under discussion is for the party to declare that it understands the need for specific adjustments, especially to curb irregularities in social programs, but criticize the market for demanding a reduction in social expenses from the government.
There should also be discussion on other issues, such as a review of the municipal election, in which the party had less than expected results.
