mobile shelters that can protect against a variety of threats.
The Emergencies Ministry’s research institute said the “KUB-M” shelter can provide protection for 48 hours against radiation from nuclear explosions and other natural and man-made hazards, as reported by Reuters.
Among those he listed were: explosions and shrapnel from conventional weapons, falling debris from buildings, hazardous chemicals and fires.
“KUB-M” looks like a reinforced container and consists of two units – a room for 54 people and a technical block. More units can be added if needed, the institute said.
He did not link the move to any current crisis, although the announcement came after US President Joe Biden’s administration agreed to allow Ukraine to launch long-range US missiles deep into Russia – a decision the Kremlin called reckless and would bring the Moscow’s response.
It is recalled that today, Vladimir Putin proceeded to renew a decree signed by him in June 2020, regarding the wider use of nuclear weapons, in response to the announcement of the United States.
“The mobile shelter is a multifunctional structure that provides protection to people from various threats, including natural disasters and man-made accidents,” the research institute said, calling it “an important step towards improving the safety of citizens.”
It can be easily transported on a truck and connected to water supplies, and can also be deployed in Russia’s vast northern permafrost, he added.
