After a meeting between president Marcelo Teixeira and members of the club’s top management, Santos announced on Monday night (18) the departure of coach Fábio Carille after winning the Series B title and access to Series A of the Brazilian Championship. in 2025.
The commander’s contract with the club has a clause that provided for automatic renewal in case of access to the first national division, but, according to Peixe, the non-renewal was by mutual agreement.
“Santos Futebol Clube informs that, by mutual agreement, Fábio Carille is no longer the club’s coach. Fábio Carille and the members of the technical committee were hired to rebuild Santos and achieved all the objectives and goals proposed in 2024. Santos Futebol Clube thanks coach Fábio Carille and wishes him success in continuing his career”, says the official note.
Behind the scenes, the decision not to continue the coach was due to the criticism he received during the season, both from the fans and the board. Even with the Segundona title assured, Carille was heavily booed and cursed by fans during the 2-1 defeat to CRB, last Sunday (17), at Vila Viva Sorte.
On social media, the coach commented on his departure and said he had “a feeling of mission accomplished, aware that everything we achieved was based on hard daily work by everyone at Santos”.
“I leave, as in my first visit, very honored to represent one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is a privilege to be part of the history of Santos Futebol Clube. I thank everyone who participated in this project and believed from the beginning in what was planned”, completed.
Without Carille, Santos will begin negotiations with new names for the 2025 technical command. On social media, fans have already started speculating on the names of replacements. Behind the scenes, the most popular name is Portuguese Pedro Caixinha, 54, who recently left Bragantino. He led the club from the interior of São Paulo to two semi-finals of the Campeonato Paulista.
Other names considered and that are free on the market are Luiz Felipe Scolari, Portuguese Sérgio Conceição and Tite, recently fired from Flamengo.
Santos ends its participation in the national Series B next Sunday (24), against Sport, on Ilha do Retiro, in Recife (PE). The team should be temporarily led by Leandro Zago, coach of the Peixe under-20 team.
This was Carille’s second stint in command of Peixe. In 2024, he led Santos in 53 games, with 30 wins, 10 draws and 13 defeats. The team scored 65 goals and conceded 37, reaching the final of the Campeonato Paulista and returning to Série A with the Série B title.
Before returning to Vila, Carille was with V-Varen Nagasaki, in Japan, since 2022.
In his first spell, between September 2021 and February 2022, he had 27 games, with 9 wins, 10 draws and 8 losses, with a 46% success rate.
