Boy († 15) died after doctors removed 56 items from his stomach, including batteries, chains, razor blades and screwswrites Aditya Sharma underwent a complex five-hour operation to remove the items, but despite the surgeons’ best efforts, he did not survive. During the operation, metal objects with a total weight of 350 grams were removed from him, but an infection reportedly spread to his intestine, causing it to rupture.
Doctors at a Delhi hospital said his death should be investigated. According to them, the teenager’s health problems they started on October 13, when he started experiencing shortness of breath and discomfort.
Reports say he complained about severe stomach pains and difficulty breathingprompting his family to seek medical attention. He was initially taken to a local hospital in Hathras, but was later shifted to a hospital in Jaipur for further treatment. He was released after a short treatment.
On October 26, an ultrasound was done at Aligarh Hospital and around 19 foreign objects were found in his body. He was then taken to surgery, where the doctors found many more objects in it than originally thought.
He died on October 28, two weeks after he first developed symptoms. Both Aditya’s family and the medical community are puzzled as to how the objects ended up in his stomach. There were no signs of injury to the mouth or throat, so it is unclear whether the boy swallowed the objects on purpose or by accident.
