See who was embraced more effusively by the Brazilian and who received a colder reception, like Argentine Javier Milei

Before the opening of the G20 Leaders Summit this Monday (18.Nov.2024), the president (PT) received the heads of state of the 20 largest economies in the world. As part of diplomatic cordiality, he greeted each person individually and posed for photos.

Lula demonstrated closer ties to some leaders than others. While the President of France, Emmanuel Macron (Renaissance, center), and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau (Liberal Party of Canada, center-left), were received effusively, with the President of Argentina, Javier Milei ( La Libertad Avanza, right), exchanged a cold and distant handshake.

It is the first time that Milei and Lula have greeted each other since the Argentine’s election. In June, they were in the same environment during the G7 Summit. The neighboring country discussed several topics for the final declaration of the meeting. If it doesn’t give in, it risks overthrowing the document – which would be a failure for Brazil.

In total, Lula personally received 37 heads of state and two leaders of multilateral organizations. Other invited authorities arrived before the Brazilian president’s reception.
