Pig’s head in Corinthians x Palmeiras: how was it?
In the 28th minute of the first half, Raphael Veiga, from Palmeiras, went to take a corner and they threw a glass of water, as well as a “strange” object, which remained on the field line. Within seconds, it was possible to realize that it was a pig’s head.
For the game to continue, Yuri Alberto, from Corinthians, had to kick the pig’s head off. Referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio must report the incident on the scoresheet and this could lead to punishment for Timão.
After the game, Yuri Alberto explained that he had not understood what it was about. To him, it was a cushion, not an animal’s head.
– I almost broke my foot. I thought it was a pillow. I went to remove it with my foot, a kick to put it further away. I almost hurt my foot – said Yuri.
The pig is Palmeiras’ mascot, alongside the parakeet. Until the 80s, rivals called Alviverde “pig” in a pejorative way. However, Verdão managed to transform the situation and adopted the pig as its mascot.
