The Germans opened the scoring in the second half with Felix Nmecha (76′) and were on track to win, but in stoppage time they were equalized via a penalty kick by Dominik Szoboszlai (90’+9). With 14 points out of a possible 18, Germany finished the group stage undefeated (four wins and two draws). Second place was the Netherlands, which was also already classified and this Tuesday drew by the same score in its visit to Bosnia.
Brian Brobbey scored the Dutch goal in the first half (24′) and Ermedin Demirovic equalized for the Bosnians in the final half (67′). The Netherlands finished with 9 points and Hungary was third with 6, while Bosnia was bottom with 2. On Friday, Germany will know who their opponents will be in the quarter-finals, which could be Italy, Denmark or Croatia. As group leader, ‘Mannschaft’ will have the advantage of playing the second leg at home, on March 23, three days after playing the first leg as a visitor. The Netherlands, in turn, will have to play the first leg at home, against Spain, Portugal or France.
