Haitian police and residents of Port-au-Prince killed 28 members of armed groups on Tuesday, after an offensive in several neighborhoods of the capital.

Local authorities and international organizations already state that about 80% of Port-au-Princecapital of Haiti – the poorest country on the American continent and 158th out of 193 countries in the human development index (HDI/UN) – is dominated by criminal groups.

The armed gangs, who try to take power in the country, have already caused the death of almost 5,000 people in the first nine months of 2024, according to UN data.

The violence of armed groups has already displaced a total of 4,372 people, of which 3,586 in the capital, 488 in Tabarre and 298 in Delmas, according to figures released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
