Nowadays, there is no shortage of recipes for refined cakes in cookbooks and on the Internet. We can also find them in bakeries and confectioneries. The choice is so large that sometimes it is difficult to decide.
It used to be a bit different. In times when store shelves were empty, housewives prepared cakes using popular ingredients. This is how a zebra with characteristic light and dark streaks, alternating, was created. Hence its name, which refers to the zebra’s color. The recipe for this cake is very simple, so anyone can make it.
Each of us probably has the ingredients for zebra cake in our kitchen. If not, we will definitely buy them in any store, even a local store.
What ingredients do we need to make zebra cake? Here is the list:
- 2.5 cups and 3 tablespoons of wheat flour;
- 1.5 cups of sugar;
- 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder;
- 5 eggs;
- 1 cup of oil;
- 1 cup of yellow orangeade;
- 3 tablespoons of cocoa;
- optional: a bit of almond flavor.
To make the zebra cake, for starters mix whole eggs with sugar until a fluffy mass is formed. Then add 2.5 cups of wheat flour, sugar, baking powder, oil, orangeade and almond flavor.
In the next step, we divide the resulting mass into two parts: add the rest of the wheat flour to the first one, and cocoa to the second one.
Line the cake tin with baking paper and we start pouring two mixtures into it alternately – 3 tablespoons of dark and 3 tablespoons of light dough.
Bake the zebra cake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. to a dry stick.
We recommend dusting the baking with powdered sugar or cocoa. We can also cover it with chocolate icing.
