The minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) scheduled a hearing with the lieutenant colonel for this Thursday (21) to discuss the terms of his plea bargain.
The Federal Police sent this Tuesday (19) a report to the minister saying that the former aide-de-camp of () has failed to comply with clauses of the agreement.
The expectation is that Moraes will then decide whether the collaboration will be maintained. The possible annulment of the plea bargain must keep the military’s evidence and statements valid, but Cid may lose the benefits obtained in the agreement.
Moraes has already sent the report to the (Attorney General’s Office), which must comment on the continued collaboration of the military.
Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp gave a new statement to the PF this Tuesday about the investigations into an attempted coup. The hearing lasted around three hours. Cid left the corporation’s headquarters in the early evening, accompanied by lawyer Cezar Bittencourt.
The military’s defense told the Sheet see no reason to question the validity of Cid’s plea. “I must be heard, but I don’t see a reason. After all, he is doing his part, he collaborated with the Court and has been contributing for a year and a half,” said Bittencourt.
Cid’s lawyer also stated that Tuesday’s testimony was “a bit open”. “It seems like the police had nothing to ask,” he said.
“The Cid was not, is not and will not be interested in overthrowing any government. He gained nothing from it. Was there such a movement at the time? [Eles] They talked, but they talked there in December and January. There’s nothing special, nothing new,” he added.
The PF’s assessment is that Cid has omitted information and made the investigation difficult, contradicting the agreement signed with the military. The investigators’ discontent increased because, according to them, the lieutenant colonel deleted messages and files from his cell phone considered important for the investigation.
The corporation’s letter was sent to the Supreme Court in the early evening and was based on Cid’s testimony given this Tuesday. Earlier, the Federal Police advanced in investigations into the coup plans at the end of 2022, in an operation that arrested five people suspected of planning the murder of Lula (PT), Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and Moraes.
People close to Cid told Sheetsubject to reservation, that the military denies having omitted information from investigators or even erased evidence. The justification given is that, in his role as adjutant, he received dozens of documents a day and deleted what he considered unimportant.
Cid also said that he was unaware of the coup plan drawn up by retired general Mário Fernandes, former executive secretary of the General Secretariat of the Presidency in the Bolsonaro government.
Rodrigues was one of those arrested in a PF operation this Tuesday against suspected members of a criminal organization that, according to investigations, planned a coup d’état in 2022 to prevent Lula from taking office.
The operation targeted soldiers with special forces training, the so-called “black kids”.
Moraes approved Cid’s plea with the PF on September 9, 2023. On the same day, the soldier was released from prison and authorized to respond to investigations from home.
The agreement provides that the lieutenant colonel will have to collaborate with the authorities, with a willingness to give lengthy statements, detail all the information he had access to and direct the way to obtain evidence.
In return, the uniformed man gained the right to leave prison and comply with less restrictive measures. The eventual penalties for the crimes he committed, in this scenario, should be lower.
Cid accepted the PF’s proposal to close an award-winning collaboration after the soldier’s father, retired general Mauro Lourena Cid, was the target of searches by the corporation. He is being investigated for assisting in the sale of state gifts for the benefit of the former president.
