Palmeiras went in search of the CBF to prevent the plans of Mateus Simões, vice-governor of Minas Gerais, to have only fans in the game between Verdão and Cruzeiro in the penultimate round of the Brasileirão. The match, which will be played on December 4th at Mineirão, is the focus of the letter made by the São Paulo team, which suggests a change in the status of the game if the change is not accepted.
Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, defended changing the location of the match if the government of Minas does not believe that it has a police structure to contain confusion and maintain spaces for Alviverde fans in the stadium.
For the vice-governor, the need for a single fan base comes from the fight that occurred in the ambush carried out by members of Mancha, the organized Palmeiras fans, against Cruzeiro fans, in October.
At the time, 150 people were involved, resulting in the death of a Cruzeiro native and 17 others injured. “We asked those responsible for the game to be open to only fans. If this is not met, which, unfortunately, we are not the ones who make this decision, we will take legal action, to prevent Palmeiras fans from attending the stadium”, stated Simões.
Why Palmeiras wants to be present so much
The club’s struggle to have its fans at the stadium against Cruzeiro is due to the importance of the match, decisive in the race for the Brasileirão. Currently, Palmeiras is fighting with Botafogo, just four points above the table.
Verdão claims that he cannot be penalized sportingly for a crime that did not happen at the match, but rather on a nearby highway. In the first round of the Brasileirão, Palmeiras opened the Allianz Parque stands to the Cruzeiro fans, and states that, if Cruzeiro does not do the same, it will be violating the “principle of isonomy”.
