The states that one of the soldiers involved in the plan to kill the president (), the vice president (), and the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) used data from another person to enable a cell phone used in the group’s communication.
According to a police report that supported Operation Contragolpe, Lieutenant Colonel Rafael Martins de Oliveira, then a major, registered the device in the name of the owner of a car with whom he was involved in a traffic accident on the highway that connects Brasília to Goiânia.
The investors claim that the conduct “converges with the ‘anonymization’ process, a technique provided for in the Army Special Forces doctrine whose purpose is not to allow the identification of the
true user of the telephone prefix”.
The use of the data, according to the PF, was identified after the seizure of a cell phone in Oliveira’s possession last February, when Operation Tempus Veritatis was carried out, the previous phase of the investigation that aims to identify those responsible for the coup plot.
Experts identified two images on the phone, photos of Lafaiete Teixeira Caitano’s driver’s license and a vehicle licensing certificate.
After research, investigators obtained information from the Civil Police of Goiás that Caitano and Oliveira were involved in a traffic accident on November 24, 2022, shortly after 10 pm, on BR-060, in a location known as Sete Curvas, near from Brasilia.
The police then concluded that the images had been obtained as a result of the incident and continued research. The agents requested data from the cell phone associated with teixeiralafaiete230, a codename linked to the device used in communications by the group under investigation.
The company confirmed that the device was registered on December 8 of that year “exactly in the name of Lafaiete Teixeira Caitano, driver involved in the aforementioned accident”.
The PF report states that “the investigation team came to the conclusion that Rafael de Oliveira used the data of Lafaiete Teixeira Caitano, a third party in good faith, to enable a telephone number that was later used in the clandestine action on the 15th of December 2022”. The report tries to locate Oliveira’s defense.
Investigators claim that the military involved in the plot to allegedly act on December 15th. As of 8:33 p.m., the suspects reported being at their posts. The operation was cancelled, however, at 8:59 pm.
“At 8:57 p.m., Austria [o condinome de um dos suspeitos na troca de mensagens] writes: ‘I’m close to the position. Are you going to cancel the game?’, possibly wondering if the action was going to be cancelled. Two minutes later, the number under the name ‘teixeiralafaiete230’, appointed as leader of the operation, responds: ‘Abort… Austria… return to the landing site… we are here’.”
The group exchanged messages with the information that the STF session that day had been postponed, which would have led to the cancellation of the action.
According to the research, message exchanges indicate that the person associated with the codename teixeiralafaiete230 played a leadership role among those responsible for the plan.
