The PT National Executive defended the punishment of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the soldiers arrested by the Federal Police this Tuesday (19) for allegedly planning the assassination of President Lula (PT). The party considers that the former president was the “most interested in the coup plot”.
According to investigations, the military had planned a coup d’état in 2022 with the death of the PT member, vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Four military personnel and a federal police officer were arrested.
In the report sent to the STF, the corporation links Bolsonaro to the alleged coup plot. For the PT, the “appalling conclusions” of the PF investigation “point directly to the Palácio do Planalto commanded by Jair Bolsonaro, the person most interested in the coup plot to prevent the elected official from taking office and establish his dictatorship”.
“The uniformed terrorists discussed their plans at the residence of General Braga Netto, former Defense Minister and vice-president who lost the elections. The head of the assassination operation was General Mário Fernandes, former executive secretary of the General Secretariat of the Presidency. And the former head of the GSI, General Augusto Heleno, would be the coordinator of a military junta to impose repression and guarantee Bolsonaro’s dictatorship”, says the note released by the party.
The party considers that there is a need for “effective and legally constituted surveillance of the actions of the far-right coup plotters on social media and in organized groups with a fascist and anti-democratic orientation”.
Bolsonaro makes “hypocritical calls for pacification”, says PT about amnesty
The party classified as “immoral” the project that grants amnesty to those arrested for the acts of January 8, 2023 and reinforced that without exemplary punishment for those involved, democracy in Brazil will continue to be threatened.
“As long as they try to falsify reality and evade justice, with the active complicity of parliamentarians and even governors from their extremist ideological spectrum, articulating an immoral amnesty project in Congress, the country will be subject to terrorist acts like the one that happened less than a year ago. week in Brasília”, said the acronym.
The party’s National Executive also said that “the impunity of leaders” is the “most powerful incentive for criminal action by individuals or extremist groups” in the country. “There is, by definition, no moderate Bolsonarist or extreme right-wing Democrat. The new conclusions of the inquiry crudely expose their way of acting, which disregards human life, institutions and the Rule of Law, in the name of an authoritarian project of power”, said the PT.
“This is the true and only face of Jair Bolsonaro and his accomplices, not the one he tries to impose with his hypocritical calls for pacification, because they are the commanders of war, hatred and political violence”, added the acronym.
The PT stated that the arrests, ordered by Moraes, are “a very important step towards holding the architects of the 8th of January” in 2023 accountable. “Containing the coup and extreme right-wing terrorism, however, requires that everyone involved be prosecuted and punished pedagogically, starting with the chief and his most powerful accomplices, civilians and military”, says an excerpt from the statement.

“The shocking conclusions of the Federal Police investigation into military plans to assassinate President Lula, Vice Geraldo Alckmin and Minister Alexandre de Moraes point directly to the Palácio do Planalto commanded by Jair Bolsonaro, the most interested in the coup plot to prevent the inauguration of the elected official and establish his dictatorship.
The uniformed terrorists discussed their plans at the residence of General Braga Netto, former Defense Minister and vice-president who lost the elections. The head of the assassination operation was General Mário Fernandes, former executive secretary of the General Secretariat of the Presidency. And the former head of the GSI, General Augusto Heleno, would be the coordinator of a military junta to impose repression and guarantee Bolsonaro’s dictatorship.
This morning’s arrests, ordered by Minister Moraes with the support of the Attorney General of the Republic, are a very important step towards holding the architects of January 8th accountable. Containing the coup and extreme right-wing terrorism, however, requires that everyone involved be prosecuted and pedagogically punished, starting with the leader and his most powerful accomplices, civilians and military.
As long as they remain unpunished, they will continue to threaten democracy and peace in Brazil. As long as they try to falsify reality and evade justice, with the active complicity of parliamentarians and even governors from their extremist ideological spectrum, articulating an immoral amnesty project in Congress, the country will be subject to terrorist acts like the one that happened less than a week ago in Brasilia.
It is the impunity of the leaders, the shamelessness with which they present themselves in public, on social networks and even in the media, that is the most powerful incentive for criminal action by individuals or extremist groups spread across the country. There is, by definition, no moderate Bolsonarist or extreme right-wing Democrat. The investigation’s new conclusions crudely expose their way of acting, which disregards human life, institutions and the rule of law, in the name of an authoritarian project of power.
This is the true and only face of Jair Bolsonaro and his accomplices, not the one he tries to impose with his hypocritical calls for pacification, because they are the commanders of war, hatred and political violence.
Democracy needs to contain them so as not to succumb, which requires, in addition to the action of Justice, effective and legally constituted surveillance over the actions of the extreme right-wing coup plotters on social media and in organized groups with a fascist and anti-democratic orientation. Punishment for everyone involved in the coup plot and the assassination plans for Lula, Alckmin and Moraes! No Amnesty!”
