PS leader does not ask for the minister’s resignation but says: “For less, the PSD demanded the resignation of socialist ministers in the past”.
The executive director of the National Health Service (SNS) said this Monday that hospitals are taking measures to respond to the increase in demand during the winter and prevent emergencies from reaching the limit.
During a visit to the Santarém District Hospital, where he met with the Board of Directors, António Gandra D’Almeida highlighted to Lusa the efforts to prepare hospitals for winter, ensuring that the SNS and hospital units are take action to respond to increased demand and prevent emergencies from reaching “their limit”.
“Os hospitals are preparing for winter. We all know that winter is always a very complex time when ULS [Unidades Locais de Saúde] they reach their limit and we are trying to avoid that as much as possible. But we’re going to have a bad winterwe have to work to try to fill or reduce this excess need for assistance”, he stated.
The executive director also admitted the existence of “constraints on medical teams” in several regions of the country. “Of course there are constraints on teams and professionals and that is why we try to attract, hire and provide better conditions so that we can provide an adequate response to the Portuguese population”, said the person in charge.
Pedro Nuno doesn’t trust
The next day, and on the same subject, Pedro Nuno Santoscriticized the management of the Ministry of Health: “I have no confidence in this healthcare team to manage the winter”.
The PS general secretary thinks that the Government has failed in the hiring of doctors for public service, in the management of obstetric emergencies in the summer and in the INEM strike.
“One of the areas where there is reason to feel insecure It’s the health area, with a Government that has only failed”, said Pedro Nuno.
The leader of the socialists understands that the “main responsible” for these failures in Health is the Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, and not the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins.
But, unlike other elements of the opposition, Pedro Nuno Santos does not ask the minister to resign. The ones who should decide, he explains, are Luís Montenegro and Ana Paula Martins.
Even so, he shot: “For less, the PSD demanded the dismissal of socialist ministers in the past”.
