Black Awareness Day is celebrated for the first time as a national holiday this Wednesday (20), and one of the main challenges associated with the date is to enforce a law created more than 20 years ago, but which has not yet come to fruition: implementing the teaching of Afro-Brazilian history and culture in schools. Now, a startup says it can help solve this problem with artificial intelligence (AI).
A startup Black Biography launched during the Web Summit, the largest innovation event in the world, held last week in Lisbon, a platform that combines artificial intelligence, blockchain and other technologies to create educational tools that seek to bring students and teachers closer to the Afro-Brazilian legacy. Its flagship is Win.I.Aa chatbot trained to answer questions about Afro-Brazilian history and culture in an accessible way and adapted to the local reality.
The AI adjusts accents, uses regional slang and highlights Afro-relevant narratives specific to each region of the country. “A school can use AI in classes, asking questions directly to historical figures like Machado de Assis, facilitating student learning”, explains founder Léo Oliveira.

The tool also goes beyond direct answers, suggesting content related to the user’s profile. For example, when addressing themes of resistance, Wini.IA can adopt “warrior mode”, offering responses focused on overcoming and historical struggle.
“When researching Portugal, for example, it will provide basic information about the country, but also contextualize it with something related to the diaspora – in this case, colonization [portuguesa]”, says Oliveira.
Biografia Preta seeks to serve more than 178 thousand public basic education schools in Brazil, helping teachers and students to work on Afro-centered teaching. According to the startup, one of the objectives is to combat algorithmic racism, ensuring that responses respect black representation and equality values.

The business, which is in the implementation phase of its MVP (acronym in English for Minimum Viable Product), is led by Oliveira, who has more than 20 years of experience in technology with cultural enhancement initiatives, and has Mel Campos in the business. In the area of educational gamification is educator Tata Ribeiro, and researcher Ana Dindara contributes knowledge about the anti-racist movement.
After presenting the solution in Lisbon, the startup will launch its platform nationally at an afro-futurist event in Vale do Dendê, in Salvador, between November 29th and 30th. At the beginning of 2025, Biografia Preta plans to promote specific training for teachers on the use of artificial intelligence in teaching.
