Bahia has expanded the crisis it is experiencing in the Brazilian Championship. This Wednesday (20), the tricolor opened the scoring against Palmeiras and had a goal disallowed, but came back 2-1 in the final minutes of the second half, lost the fourth match in a row and reached six games without winning in the competition.
The tricolor even had a good game and opened the scoring with Luciano Rodríguez. The team, however, failed to finish, failed to expand and saw Raphael Veiga take a perfect free kick to leave everything the same. In the second half, Flaco López scored the second for the São Paulo team.
The negative result made Bahia park at 46 points. The club occupies 8th place, outside the classification zone for the Libertadores, and has Corinthians on its heels. The black and white team has 44 points and is one place below, in 9th place.
In the final stretch of the season, Bahia will have another commitment at home in the Brasileirão. On Sunday (24), it hosts Athletico-PR, at 4pm, at Fonte Nova.
Rogério Ceni surprised the lineup and blocked two references from the team. In a bad phase, goalkeeper Marcos Felipe lost his starting spot to Adriel. Cauly, on the other hand, was replaced by Thaciano, who joined Caio Alexandre, Jean Lucas and Everton Ribeiro in midfield. At the front, the duo Lucho and Ademir were maintained.
The change in midfield made Bahia behave differently. The tricolor started the match playing more vertically than usual, with less possession of the ball and exploring long passes and speed in the spaces left by Palmeiras. Ademir almost opened the score with a header in the small area, but Weverton was smart and made the save.
Bahia’s advantage forced Palmeiras to take a little more risk. The team tried to press, but found the Tricolor defense well positioned. Meanwhile, the Squad continued with chances to expand. Lucho received the ball quickly and had Ademir free entering the area, but he missed the pass. Shortly afterwards, Jean Lucas, with a strong kick, stopped in a miraculous save by Weverton.
When Bahia seemed closer to the second goal, they took a cold shower. At 40, Raphael Veiga took a free kick perfectly, the wall didn’t go up properly and the ball fell into Adriel’s net, who didn’t even react. It was Palmeiras’ draw at Fonte Nova.
The second half started very similar to the end of the first half. Bahia was present in attack, but had difficulty creating clear chances. Meanwhile, Palmeiras tried to be more incisive. It didn’t take long for Rogério Ceni to replace striker Biel in Thaciano’s place.
Bahia’s second goal almost came in the 13th minute. Ademir crossed low and Lucho shot hard, but Weverton made the save. The Uruguayan himself got the rebound, but defender Vitor Reis saved it practically on the line.
As time passed, the game lost a little intensity, with few clear chances for both sides. When Bahia appeared in attack again, Cauly made a beautiful pass and left Biel in Weverton’s face, but the attacker shot over and wasted an incredible move.
Bahia continued to put pressure on. In the 39th minute, Gilberto crossed into the area, Tiago caught it first time and had a deflection from Jean Lucas to beat goalkeeper Weverton, but the Tricolor midfielder was offside and the goal was disallowed.
To top it off, shortly afterwards, Flaco López deflected Vanderlan’s cross. The ball hit the crossbar and the floor. Palmeiras players complained. VAR took action, confirmed that the ball crossed the line and gave Palmeiras the goal, in the 44th minute of the 2nd half. It was confirmation of another defeat for Bahia in the Brasileirão.
