The (PL-RS), an early ally of the former president (PL), is expected to assume leadership of the opposition next year. He will take the place currently occupied by the deputy (PL-PR).
The leaders of the Chamber have a series of responsibilities, including participating in the weekly meeting with the president of the House to discuss the plenary agenda and other legislative topics, such as those related to committees. Furthermore, it is up to these leaders to guide the benches during the votes — they also have the right to speaking time in the discussions.
In addition to his proximity to Bolsonaro, Zucco defends issues that are dear to the opposition, such as public security and issues related to agribusiness. In his first term, he left the Republicans to join the PL and was appointed president of the , which took place last year in the House.
This week, other parliamentarians were reminded by colleagues to take up the post, such as (PL-RJ), who was leader of the opposition in the first semester, and deputy Cabo Gilberto Silva (PL-PB). According to a deputy familiar with the negotiations, an agreement was reached for Silva to assume leadership of the opposition in 2026.
Barros’ term runs until February. According to parliamentarians, Zucco’s name is endorsed by the PL leader in the Chamber, Altineu Côrtes (RJ), and the party’s national president, Valdemar Costa Neto.
