Are you one of those women who like to wear tights? Keep track of what materials they are made of. If they are made of synthetic fibers, they have many disadvantages!

Tights are an essential part of a woman’s wardrobe. They are not only a practical accessory for clothing in the colder months, but also give women’s legs a beautiful and elegant look.

However, it does not always mean that what is fashionable is also beneficial for our health and the environment. They are mostly made of synthetic fibers, which are durable, flexible and easy to maintain, but they also pose many risks.

Pantyhose or “Sylons”

Most hosiery yarns are made from polyamide fibers such as nylon, perlon or silon and elastic fibers such as lycra or spandex. Industrially, man-made fibers began to be mass-produced in the 1950s, and due to their durability and low production costs, synthetic materials quickly became quite popular.

Currently, they account for less than 70% of the total volume of clothing in the world. However, the low price and easy availability are redeemed by many negative effects on the environment as well as the health and comfort of all users. Why should we fundamentally reconsider and avoid wearing tights and other pieces of “artificial” clothing?

Insufficient breathability

Synthetic fibers do not allow enough air, which causes overheating of the skin and increased sweating. A moist environment creates ideal conditions for the growth of unwanted bacteria and yeast, which can lead to various skin problems such as itching, irritation, inflammation, fungus and skin infections.

Allergic reactions

Some women may be allergic to the chemicals used in the production of synthetic fibers, which can cause uncomfortable rashes, skin redness and swelling.

Impairment of blood circulation

Tights with a high content of elastic fibers are quite tight for the body. It not only causes a feeling of discomfort, but also restricts proper blood circulation. The result is leg fatigue, sometimes pain and an increased risk of varicose veins.

Static

Synthetic materials are easily charged with static electricity, which can cause discomfort when worn, as well as attract dust and dirt.

Ecological impacts

The production of synthetic fibers is very energy-intensive and unfortunately also leaves a high carbon footprint. In addition, these materials are difficult to decompose in nature, which contributes badly to environmental pollution.

What are the alternatives

If you want to avoid the problems associated with synthetic tights, get tights made from natural materials. These are materials that are breathable, pleasant to the touch and do not irritate the skin so much. Which one is it specifically?

Cotton tights

Tights made of cotton are breathable and soft, which is suitable for any skin, especially for sensitive skin. Cotton is also hypoallergenic and less prone to generating static electricity. Cotton tights are very comfortable to wear, absorb sweat well and are suitable for everyday wear.

Silk tights

Silk is a natural material that is very soft and breathable. Silk tights are a luxurious choice that is gentle on the skin and also very pleasant to the touch. In addition, this material is antibacterial, so unwanted bacteria and dust will not be retained in the silk fiber.

Bamboo fiber tights

Bamboo fibers are breathable, antibacterial, hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly. Tights made from them are very comfortable to wear and suitable for any sensitive skin.
